2024 Seaweed Summit

Registrations are now open!

The 2024 Seaweed Summit will be held at the Rutherford Hotel in Nelson on 11th October 2024.

Programme

Our 2024 theme is “Accelerating Algae” and our summit agenda is a good reflection of this.  We’re still fine tuning and finalising a few details, but have a jam packed agenda with more business stories,  more research and updates on the progression of exciting seaweed projects already underway in Aotearoa.

This year we also welcome three international speakers, Paul Dobbins (World Wildlife Fund), Peter Green (Paxtier) and Dean Steinke (DSA Ocean) to our programme, and trust our seaweed community will show them true kiwi hospitality!

All registered attendees will receive the full programme by email before the event.  You can also check our website or Linked in for updates.

Student Poster Session

This year we are pleased to have six student posters being presented, double what we had in 2023!

These will cover progress in PhD studies towards the aquaculture of Durvillaea and Lessonia, quantifying kelp carbon sequestration in the deep ocean, and added-value products from processing of NZ seaweeds into gelling nanocellulose, designer oligosaccharides, and an Ecklonia-derived biocompatible matrix for tissue engineering.

There are poster prizes of $1,000 for the winner and $500 for the runner up, thanks to the generous support of Jill Bradley.

You can read all the 2024 Poster abstracts here.

Seeking Sponsors

Thank you to CH4 Global who have once again, come in as an early sponsor. We are extremely grateful for your ongoing support.

We are looking for additional sponsors to support this event. If you would like to know more, please send us an email.

If you are coming, why not attend the AQNZ conference too?

We purposely like to follow the AQNZ conference which will be held just before our seaweed event, as there are many overlapping areas of interest. You can register to attend the AQNZ Conference here.
